Demantoid garnet

When selecting demantoid, look for the purity and intensity of the green color. Sizes over three carats are extremely rare and if the stone is of Russian origin, this adds to its value.

Demantoid garnets from Russia often contain inclusions of fibrous chrysotile in a pattern resembling the tail of a horse.

Very special care should be taken when handling demantoid garnet, because the stone is softer than other garnets and is also more brittle.
