Sapphire and tourmaline are hot
Blue sapphire and tourmaline are definitely hot gemstones this year. Big Chinese demand for blue sapphire is bringing the price more up after a steady increase during these past two years. All qualities and sizes are affected.

Blue sapphire and tourmaline are definitely hot gemstones this year.
Big Chinese demand for blue sapphire is bringing the price more up after a steady increase during these past two years. All qualities and sizes are affected.
Tourmaline also is in high demand from China. Clean pieces in 10 carats up in all colors are bought for very high prices. Multicolor material is even more sought, prices for this material skyrocketed and still find buyers. Green tourmaline was not in market favor until apple green stones from Mozambique appeared. Today these green stones compete for high prices with the more traditional rubellite.
Tsavorite garnets from light mint to dark green are plenty on the market but it is difficult to find bargain prices for it.
Relatively new comers like sphene (titanite) or phrenite, looking for buyers, can bring bargain prices.
Ruby is still not expensive in sizes up to 2 carats even in no cooked stones. Material unheated in the 5 cts range have also been seen.
